The Vessel

The Vessel

A 45 foot small yacht with a solid foundation upon which we have built a luxury vessel keeping adventure and exploration in mind. Stacked with all of the amenities; this spacious, warm and attractive vessel is a great platform to host your next adventure out on the ocean.

The MV Kraken

The MV Kraken is a unique vessel with years of custom refits using quality materials and craftsmanship, built keeping functionality and purpose in mind. The vessel is powered by two Hino 250 HP turbo engines, engines with an outstanding reputation for reliability and performance. The vessel has been refit with the latest technology in navigations, power and electrical management and of course, safety gear.

Vessel Specifications

The MV Kraken is a Bayliner ‘Action Craft’ Motor Yacht model 4387 built in Edmunds, Washington. The model ‘4387’ defines its length (43 feet) and its cabin style (an ‘87’ is an aft cabin with raised poop deck giving the master stateroom lots of head room). Her overall length is 45 feet with a sturdy 15 foot beam and a displacement of about 25,000 pounds, which make her a stable comfortable vessel.

The design of the 4387 is unique from many of the other Bayliner models offering two large dressing rooms both with heads and showers. The two dressing rooms are on opposing ends of the vessel facilitating more privacy for her passengers.

Between the two dressing rooms is a lounge area with plush seating and a fireplace, a fully equipped galley and a sunken settee - in total about 350 square feet of heated space to settle in and enjoy the journey - and that's just the inside!

The outer aft deck to the 4387 is a short split level deck between itself and the flybridge resulting in over 250 square feet of common deck space, great for lounging. In fact the aft poop deck offers enough room to accommodate a bar sink, icemaker, four lounge chairs and a normal sized barbeque. All of this decking can be enclosed with custom canvas and is heated for year round enjoyment.

Three steps down from the aft poop deck is a large swim grid and fresh water shower. Forward is another large deck area with a lounging mattress and storage area for kayaks and paddleboards. The open concept of the 4387 provides many areas on the vessel for its passengers to find sun, shade and/or privacy.

Many new amenities compliment the function of the vessel including surround sound stereo, LED underwater lights, and a bolstered supply of fresh water.

The Tender

The Tender

The Tender

The Tender

Our high powered rigid hull inflatable capable of speeds of up to 30 knots, not only serves as a life boat, it is an ideal service vessel to explore small inlets and drop passengers off at the mouth of hiking trails.

The Mainship Tender - Cletus

In naming our tender we thought it too ‘common’ place to nick name it after the mother vessel. Handles like ‘Mini-Kraken’ or ‘Lil-Kraken’ just didn’t work. The marine-biologist in our cooperative of shareholders suggested ‘Cetus’ which is a smaller species in the order of sea monsters. When we went online to register the small inflatable, an auto correct feature on the computer adjusted the name to Cletus, which became forever recorded in the government registry. Despite images of a stumbling hick of the south, the Tender Vessel ‘Cletus’ stuck. When designing our vessel’s flag logo we felt it essential to have not only the image of the Kraken, but some kind of pirate incorporated into the design. A sword wielding rum drinking skeletal pirate immediately came to mind, he only needed a name. It seemed natural that he adopt the name of the tender as it so seemed to fit his character.

Where We Cruise

Where We Cruise

OUR HOME PORT

Based out of Schooner Cove Marina on beautiful Vancouver Island, the MV Kraken cruises the emerald waters of the Georgia Strait. From the Winchelsea Islands to the Gulf Islands is most often where one can find the Kraken lurking. Schooner Cove is approximately 20 minutes north of Nanaimo and a 90 minute ferry ride from Vancouver. Schooner Cove Marina itself has many opportunities to golf, walk and bike, or take a swim at the beach. The many small islands offshore including the Sisters, Ballenas, Winchelseas, Hornby and Denman, all have small unique attractions and a plethora of peaceful anchorages. Around these islands whales, dolphins, sea lions, eagles and other marine life abound.

Although based out of Schooner Cover Marina, Kraken Adventures excursions may depart from pre-arranged ports between Comox and Victoria depending on the season.
